Mississippi Commission on College Accreditation (MCCA)

The state of Mississippi’s postsecondary governing authority is the Mississippi commission on College Accreditation (MCCA). The MCCA can be contacted at 3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS 39211, or call 601-432-6372 for questions about the state accreditation of Millsaps College. As the accrediting agency for the state of Mississippi, the MCCA has established complaint procedures for the purpose of addressing student complaints regarding an MCCA authorized postsecondary institution. Read the MCCA’s policy and complaint procedure for more details.

As the accrediting body, the Commission requires institutions to have in place adequate procedures for addressing written student complaints. View the commission’s policy and complaint procedure. Students are encouraged to pursue complaints and resolutions through any specialized process already in place to address the concern (ex: Honor Code violation, Title IX complaint, etc.). These established complaint processes are often the fastest way to obtain a response from college personnel with expertise in the area relating to the complaint.

Students who feel that an established process did not resolve their concerns adequately may file a written complaint and follow the procedures listed below. A written student complaint is one that is submitted in writing (paper or electronic format) describing the issue and listing the names of the individuals involved, the impact of the issue on the student, the resolution or action requested and why it should be granted, and the current contact information of the student filing the complaint.

All of these items must be included for the issue to be a formal written student complaint. Formal written student complaints should be submitted to Megan James, vice president for student life and dean of students, at [email protected]. It is the policy of Millsaps College to ensure that all written student complaints are given careful and thorough consideration, with responses provided in a timely manner.

The following information provides guidance on which department is best suited to provide assistance with specific concerns. If a student has a question, comment or complaint that is not listed on the chart or is more general regarding Millsaps College, please email Megan James, vice president of student life and dean of students, at [email protected].
