Job Summary
The Director of Development reports to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and provides development leadership to significantly increase gifts for annual operations, endowment, and capital projects in the context of a strategic comprehensive campaign. This position manages the planned giving program and carries a portfolio of major and planned giving donors and prospects. The Director of Development is an active member of the Institutional Advancement team who works collaboratively and strategically with the Institutional Advancement, faculty, and campus leaders to advance the goals of the College.
This if a full-time on-site position located in Jackson, MS. Regular office hours are 8:00am – 4:30 pm with a one-hour unpaid lunch break and required travel and evening and weekend work.
Job Duties
- Manages a portfolio of major/planned gift donors and prospects ($25K – $1M+) that includes alumni, parents, and friends of the College.
- Provides supervision, training, and guidance for development and implementation of work plans to direct reports, including major gift officer(s).
- In concert with the VP, Associate VP for Development Operations, and Research Coordinator, assist gift officers in building active portfolios of high-capacity, high-inclination prospects and donors.
- Assists the Vice President of Advancement with developing and executing strategic plans and oversight of Advancement goals.
- Develops and implements plans for enhancing a successful planned giving program including marketing and promotion to prospects through print and online materials.
- Provides stewardship of donors who have already a made a commitment to planned giving.
- Generates program reports and presents updates to organizational leaders.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of professional, job-related experience
- Demonstrated success in fund raising including personal solicitation and closing major gifts
- Must be a highly motivated, goal-oriented strategic thinker with the ability to work independently, determine and set priorities, manage multiple and interdisciplinary projects, and maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality
- Work collaboratively with Institutional Advancement and College staff and faculty as part of a team
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills required and the ability to learn new software
- Ability to travel extensively
- Understanding of church related, residential liberal arts colleges or ability to learn quickly
- Knowledge of planned giving essentials and experience a plus
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Manual dexterity needed for keyboarding and other repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 15 pounds without assistance.
