Military Science

Serve your country & community.

Through the minor in military science, you will participate in a partnership with Jackson State University and the United States Army to earn credit hours toward the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program. This program enables you to pursue your academic degree while preparing to earn a presidential commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard upon graduation.

MLSC 1011 Challenges in Leadership I
This course provides an introduction to leadership, character development, military operations and skills and the Army’s continually changing role in the world. Course goals are accomplished through lectures, field trips, guest speakers and films.
MLSC 2021 Basic Military Skills I
Emphasis is on refining leadership skills, oral communication, and military skills. It includes map reading, orienteering and small unit tactics. This class prepares students for the advanced military science courses.

Our curriculum emphasizes problem solving and critical thinking skills essential to any career (and therefore any Pathway), as well as scientific writing and experimentation skills that may be especially critical to students interested in any of our six Pathways tracks.
