Curating culture

This interdisciplinary minor includes the study of art museums, history museums and sites, cultural museums, national heritage sites, science museums and other institutions. It is designed as a foundation for a career in the museum world, either immediately after graduation or after further graduate education in museum studies or a related field.

ARTH 2500 Museum Studies
An introduction to the structure, operations and social and political functions of museums. Topics include funding, management, marketing, ethical issues, exhibition strategies, and educational outreach.
ARTH 3002 Museum Studies Internship I
An internship in which a student works at a museum, gallery, arts administration agency or related site for at least 75 hours during the semester.

Minor in Museum Studies
This minor teams well with a major in studio art or art history, history, Greek and Roman studies, politics and government, English, communication, business, archaeology, anthropology, chemistry or biology, among others.

Our curriculum emphasizes problem solving and critical thinking skills essential to any career (and therefore any Pathway), as well as scientific writing and experimentation skills that may be especially critical to students interested in any of our six Pathways tracks.
