"Millsaps College will return to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) beginning with the 2027-28 academic year, ushering in an exciting new chapter for Majors athletics and reaffirming the College's commitment to providing an outstanding NCAA Division III student-athlete experience."

JACKSON, Miss. (June 30, 2026) — Millsaps College will return to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) beginning with the 2027-28 academic year, ushering in an exciting new chapter for Majors athletics and reaffirming the College’s commitment to providing an outstanding NCAA Division III student-athlete experience.

The SCAC announced today that its Presidents Council approved Millsaps’ application for membership. The College will officially begin conference competition in fall 2027.

For Millsaps, the move represents both a homecoming and a strategic step forward.

“Joining the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference is a natural fit for Millsaps and an important step in advancing our institutional priorities,” said President Frank Neville. “This transition reflects our commitment to providing an exceptional student-athlete experience while supporting the goals of our strategic vision. We are excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to building an even stronger tradition of competitive excellence in Millsaps athletics.”

Millsaps first joined the conference in 1989, when it was known as the College Athletic Conference, and remained a member for more than two decades. During its time in the CAC/SCAC, the Majors won 22 conference championships, adding 10 more conference titles while competing in the Southern Athletic Association.

Today, Millsaps sponsors 19 varsity sports and is home to approximately 385 student-athletes. Returning to the SCAC strengthens the College’s regional athletic partnerships while aligning Millsaps with institutions that share its dedication to academic excellence, competitive athletics and the Division III philosophy of developing the whole student.

“The SCAC has long been an important part of Millsaps athletics history, and we are excited to renew this longstanding relationship beginning in the fall of 2027,” said Director of Athletics Justin LeBlanc. “Rejoining the SCAC represents an exciting opportunity for the future of Millsaps College and our athletic department as we continue to provide an outstanding academic and athletic experience for our student-athletes.”

The transition also creates opportunities to renew historic rivalries, provide more regional competition and continue building a championship culture that reflects the values of Millsaps College.

Competition in the SCAC will begin with the 2027-28 academic year. Millsaps will continue competing as a member of the Southern Athletic Association through the 2026-27 season.
